Interest Petition to explore 7-12 program at EHS

Post date: Dec 14, 2010 1:35:59 PM

As a result of ongoing budget cuts and the loss of the last parcel tax election, AUSD has spent several months out lining budget cuts that will result in school closures and consolidations. This process is based on the AUSD Master Plan and has assumed two distinct paths: Scenario A, which includes local funding through a parcel tax or Scenario B, which does not include local funding through a parcel tax.

Through the Scenario B planning, the concept of a 7th grade- 12th grade secondary school program based at Encinal High School (EHS) has been presented out of necessity and as a result of budget cuts.  Ideally, the parcel tax will pass in March 2011, schools will stay open and this option becomes a magnet or pilot program providing school choice and academic excellence.

There are strong opinions both for and against this concept. In an effort to gauge parent interest in the 7-12 concept, the PTAC is posting this "Interest Petition."

Assuming the March 2011 parcel tax passes and no schools are closed, should AUSD continue to develop & implement a 7th-12th grade secondary program as an educational option for Alameda students?

If you think that AUSD should AUSD continue to develop & implement a 7th-12th grade secondary program as an educational option for Alameda students, please sign the Interest Petition below..
