Post date: Oct 15, 2009 4:13:46 PM

Thank you to all who made Alameda’s Ninth Walk & Roll to School event such a success, and particularly all the students, PTAs, school principals and their staffs, PE instructors, and parents of the AUSD elementary and middle schools. Particular thanks to the broad community support of those who participated including Mayor Johnson, City Council members, Interim City Manager Gallant, AUSD Superintendent Vital and staff, Board of Education members, Public Works Department, Alameda Police Department, Alameda Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association volunteers, representatives from Alameda County Supervisor Lai-Bitker and California Assemblyman Swanson’s offices, Alameda County Safe Routes to Schools Program, Alameda County Superintendent of Schools Sheila Jordan and Alameda County Board of Education Trustee McWilson, Alameda School board members, Pedestrian Friendly Alameda, plus fitness instructors from Curves, Jazzercise, and Bladium. We would like to give special thanks to Audrey Lord-Hausman for her ongoing support of this program. Without her dedication, many of the above people may have missed the opportunity to support such a community event.

The PTA Council encourages walking and bicycling to school throughout the year and many PTAs will continue this program on a monthly basis.
